Apr 13 2021 3:09PM

2021 will be the 11th season for the Stoneham Sabers in the Yawkey Baseball League under the leadership of Manager Angelo Colucci.  Stoneham quickly established themselves as one of the league's top teams, with top pitching and exceptional offense.  The Sabers have made playoff appearances in all but their inaugural season, including 6 appearances in the league semifinals.  Field manager Angelo Agiorgousis will return for his third season.  Colucci and Agiorgousis were part of the coaching staff that helped the Yawkey League capture the 8th Annual Eastern Massachusetts Baseball Classic in 2019, to put the YBL back on top of the amateur baseball circuit in New England.  However, due to COVID the annual event was cancelled last year.  Coach Joe Laurina, who has been an instrumental part of the coaching staff since their inaugural season will return for his 11th season.  Captain Ryan Flanagan will bring his leadership for an 11th season as well, along with Sabers' ace, Sam "The Bull" Cummings who will play in his 11th season.  Colucci, Flanagan and Cummings are the only players left from the original team back in 2011.  Slugger Jon Chapman has also been a long time Saber since 2012 as well.
The Yawkey Baseball League season is set to start around May 17th.  The Sabers have added new additions to the team, that they are excited about.  The league has also added a new franchise, The Dorchester Barons.  The Barons are named after the Birmingham Black Barons of the Negro Leagues.  The league is excited on their addition!  A schedule will be released in the coming weeks.

The Stoneham Sabers Coaching Staff:

Townies Edge Sabers In Three Games

Aug 14 2020 4:47PM

The Stoneham Sabers' 10th anniversary season came to an end on Thursday night.  The Sabers lost to the Charlestown Townies, who will be going to their second consecutive Yawkey Baseball League Finals.  The Sabers lost three great baseball games, where they fell short due to timely hitting.  The Sabers lost game one 5-2, game two 2-1 and game three 2-1.  Manager Angelo Colucci said "We played three great baseball games, unfortunately we were on the losing side of all three.  Both teams have phenomenal pitching and the Townies just executive a few more timely hits than we did, it is as simple as that.  We made a few base running blunders in game three and just could not capitalize on offense all series.  However, we are happy that we were even able to play baseball this year and our 10th anniversary season was a success. I love this team, I love this league and you bet we will be back next year competing for a YBL championship."
The Sabers would like to thank Chase Orthodontist, Whole Foods in Melrose, Salem Five Bank, Anderson-Bryant Funeral Home and Dick's Sporting goods for their support this season!
